Caring for Cloth Diapers

It’s not difficult- it’s mostly common sense!

  • If you are using cotton or hemp which contain natural oils, you will need to wash them about 3 times to help them reach their full absorbency.–No need to do 3 diaper loads, simply toss them in with towels or sheets till they’re ready to use.
  • When it’s time to change baby, remove the insert  and toss into a plastic lined diaper pail or a wet bag.
  • If using a biodegradable liner, simply roll it up and flush it first.
  • On laundry day dump the diapers and any diaper covers into the washer, and do a quick rinse   and then a hot or warm water wash.
  • Use only ¼ of the recommended amount of soap.
  • Be sure to rinse thoroughly to avoid residue build up.
  • Dryer or line dry– sunlight helps to disinfect.
  • Diaper rash creams leave a greasy coating on the diapers making them repel.  Be sure to use a liner to keep your diapers functioning properly.
